Greek civil wedding in Crete

This is my story and my first attempt to organize a wedding. Our love story blossomed during the challenging times of the Covid lockdown, strengthening our bond in ways we never imagined. Having been close friends for several years, we found solace and joy in each other’s company during the pandemic. In a beautiful turn of events, I discovered I was pregnant just a few months later, filling our hearts with overwhelming joy. Eager to celebrate this wonderful news, we decided to have a small yet intimate civil wedding.

The wedding ceremony took place at the local town hall, where my growing belly was accentuated by a specially designed wedding dress. The simplicity and elegance of the decorations perfectly complemented the intimate atmosphere we desired. To infuse our wedding with a touch of Cretan tradition, we offered our guests two special elements: Rakomelo (traditional Cretan drink) and xerotigana (traditional sweet offered in Cretan weddings).

After exchanging heartfelt vows, we gathered, along with our closest family and friends, by the beach for a delightful dinner party. The evening was filled with laughter, love and joy as we celebrated our union and the upcoming arrival of our little one.
